Michael Bowden was recalled and Brooks Raley was optioned back to Iowa, Thu. Jul. 11.
Raley tossed 4.1 innings in a mop up role against the Angels the previous day, allowing two earned runs on three hits and three walks while striking out just one.
Bowden pitched with the Cubs earlier in the season but was optioned to Triple-A Iowa when Matt Garza returned from the disabled list May 21. He pitched well in Iowa, posting a 2.41 ERA and 0.95 WHIP in 18.2 innings, and has made his way back to the bigs.
He pitched against the Cardinals Fri., and retired the only hitter that he faced. For the season, Bowden has a 3.71 ERA and 1.12 WHIP through 17 innings.
