The Cubs (37-48) will take on the Pittsburgh Pirates (53-33) at Wrigley today in the rubber match of their three game weekend series.
The Cubs will send Carlos Villanueva (2-4, 3.45 ERA) to the mound, and the Pirates will send AJ Burnett (4-6, 3.12 ERA). Villanueva began the year in the Cubs rotation but was moved to the bullpen when Matt Garza returned from the injury to his elbow that had him sidelined since Jul. 2012.
Burnett will be making his first start since Jun. 8, when he pitched 8.1 innings and gave up just two runs in a 6-2 victory over the Cubs at Wrigley Field. He had been on the disabled list with a muscle tear in his calf.
The Cubs lineup is as follows:
- Julio Borbon, CF
- Starlin Castro, SS
- Anthony Rizzo, 1B
- Alfonso Soriano, LF
- Luis Valbuena, 3B
- Nate Schierholtz, RF
- Darwin Barney, 2B
- Welington Castillo, C
- Carlos Villanueva, P
Villanueva will likely only throw five innings (at most). He’s been in the bullpen and has not been stretched out at all aside from throwing a couple frames when Chris Rusin started last week following the Scott Feldman trade last week.
The Pirates lineup is:
- Starling Marte, LF
- Jose Tabata, RF
- Andre McCutchen, CF
- Garrett Jones, 1B
- Pedro Alvarez, 3B
- Russell Martin, C
- Brandon Inge, 2B
- Jordy Mercer, SS
- AJ Burnett, P
First pitch is scheduled for 2:20 PM ET/1:20 PM CT on WGN. Enjoy the game everyone, and go Cubs!
